Job (born André Jobin on October 25, 1927) is a Swiss francophone comics creator. He is probably best known for his western children's comics series Yakari, of which he has written the scripts since 1973.

Biography

André Jobin was born in Delémont, Switzerland. He became a journalist and founded Le Crapaud à lunettes in 1964, a magazine for children.

In 1967, he met Derib and hired him. In 1967 they published The Adventures of the Owl Pythagore together.

In 1969, he created the series Yakari, drawn by Derib.

In 1991, he was awarded with the Masters of Honor at the Sierre Comics Festival for his career.

Job (Shea)

Job is a bronze sculpture, created by American artist Judith Shea. It is located on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus in Indianapolis, Indiana. The piece was created in 2005 and placed on loan at Herron School of Art and Design for the school's first Public Sculpture Invitational, held between May 2005 and August 2006. In 2008, Herron acquired Job, with financial support from Jane Fortune, Dr. Robert Hesse, William Fortune Jr., and Joseph Blakley.

Description

Job is a single standing bronze figure placed at the Allen Whitehill Clowes Pavilion main entrance of Herron School of Art and Design, near New York Street. Job portrays a bald man looking upward while wearing a long open overcoat. The figure is shirtless with his palms facing outward. The figure likely represents the biblical character Job, the central character of the Book of Job in the Hebrew Bible, as well as a prophet in Islam. The sculpture measures 75” X 38” X 30”.

Acquisition

In 2007 Job was removed from the grounds of Herron School of Art & Design, since it had only been on temporary loan. However, by 2008 sufficient financial donations had been obtained (from Jane Fortune, Dr. Robert Hesse, William Fortune Jr. and Joseph Blakley), to permanently obtain the piece, and it was re-installed at Herron.

Free: The Future of a Radical Price

Free: The Future of a Radical Price is the second book written by Chris Anderson, Editor in chief of Wired magazine. The book was published on July 7, 2009 by Hyperion. He is also the author of The Long Tail, published in 2006.

Overview

Free follows a thread from the previous work. It examines the rise of pricing models which give products and services to customers for free, often as a strategy for attracting users and up-selling some of them to a premium level. That class of model has become widely referred to as "freemium" and has become very popular for a variety of digital products and services.

Release

Free was released in the United States on July 7, 2009, though the night before, on his blog, Chris Anderson posted a browser readable version of the book and the unabridged audiobook version. Anderson generated controversy for plagiarizing content from the online encyclopedia Wikipedia in Free. Anderson responded to the claim on his The Long Tail blog, stating that there were disagreements between him and the publisher over accurate citation of Wikipedia due to the changing nature of its content, leading him to integrate footnotes into the text. Also on his blog, he took full responsibility for the mistakes and noted that the digital editions of Free were corrected. The notes and sources were later provided as a download on his blog.

Free (Marcus Miller album)

Free is an album by jazz bassist Marcus Miller, released in 2007.

The album's title track is a cover of the 1977 Deniece Williams song. UK soul singer Corinne Bailey Rae provided lead vocals. "Higher Ground" is a song originally recorded by Stevie Wonder, and "What Is Hip" was originally performed by Tower of Power. "Jean Pierre" was originally performed by Miles Davis (On "We Want Miles", 1982). Blues singer Keb' Mo' performs lead vocals and co-wrote with Marcus Miller the track entitled "Milky Way".

The album's US version has not only a new title, Marcus, but the tracks have been remixed/recut. Four additional tracks have been added to the album as well.

Online and offline

The terms "online" and "offline" have specific meanings in regard to computer technology and telecommunications in which "online" indicates a state of connectivity, while "offline" indicates a disconnected state. Common vernacular extended from their computing and telecommunication meanings and refers specifically to an Internet connection.
